Funiculars

Funicular

Many people know them as “funiculars” and associate the term with the fact that very often there are two balanced cars which work in opposition on a slope. In reality the real name for them is “cableways” with the term “funicular” being Latin for “of rope”.

They are seen in many seaside towns and hilly/mountainous regions and fall under different regulations to vertical passenger lifts.
