Various statutory instruments require that lifting equipment be inspected at regular intervals.

In particular there are specific obligations under The Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) as well as implied obligations under Acts of Parliament such as The Health & Safety at Work Act, The Management (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulations, The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).
